Coperion to open new facility in Nanjing

27 March 2015

Coperion, the German compounding technology group, will move its Chinese manufacturing to a new facility in the Nanjing Jiangning District in September 2015.

The subsidiary Coperion (Nanjing) Machinery will move extruder production from its existing Nanjing facility. The new plant has a footprint of more than 15,000 square metres and will continue to focus on manufacturing the STS and CTE twin screw extruder series.

The company will retain its existing facility in Nanjing, which will be designated for R&D and technology use only as per Nanjing Jiangning Government’s plan. Coperion said that with the support of the Government of Jiangning Economic & Technology Development Zone, it was able to find a new plant for manufacturing and production purposes nearby. Construction work started in May 2014 and will be finished in June 2015.

Thomas Kehl, president of Coperion, said: “Coperion Nanjing will play a more important role in the Coperion network not only as an extruder manufacturing site but also from a customer service point-of-view.”

Coperion said the new building is designed with certain features to serve its manufacturing needs: advanced machinery production technology with engineering and manufacturing know-how from Coperion Stuttgart, Germany, and an optimized, tailor-made workshop layout for highly efficient production. It will be equipped with new German-made CNC machines and centralized air conditioning to ensure high machining precision.

A new quality control centre will be established, equipped with high-precision equipment for 3-dimensional inspection and barrel leakage testing.

The Coperion Nanjing test centre, currently equipped with a STS 35 and a STS 50 compounder, will be extended with comprehensive upstream and downstream equipment, including material handling, to provide customer process tests. The company will also add a new ZSK 32 Mc18 twin screw extruder with 18 Nm/cm³ torque in late 2015 for tests, simulation and scale-up.
