DAK Americas is expanding its Hancock County operations at Port Bienville with the construction of manufacturing facilities to produce 230 million pounds per year of polyester staple fibers. The company said the expansion is a multi-million dollar investment will create 86, bringing the work force at the facility to 239, according to a news release.

DAK’s Pearl River site manufactures resins that are primarily used to produce plastic bottles. DAK Americas purchased in 2011 the former Wellman manufacturing facility at Port Bienville.

“The announcement that DAK Americas has chosen to expand its presence in Hancock County by constructing a new facility and creating so many jobs for the area’s workforce is wonderful for the Gulf Coast region and the entire state,” Gov. Phil Bryant said.

DAK Americas President and Chief Executive Jorge Young said: “With a high quality workforce and considerable infrastructure currently in place at our Pearl River Site, DAK has a unique opportunity to grow its fiber manufacturing capabilities and meet customer demands.”

The project is expected to begin in the second half of 2016. The Mississippi Development Authority provided assistance for building renovations and work-force training, according to the release, but the agency did not respond to efforts to get details on that. Hancock County assisted with the project.
