German plastic parts maker Mecalit is aiming to expand its production facility in ?ód?, in Poland’s central part. Under the plan, the manufacturer will invest at least 12m zloty (€2.9m) and increase the factory’s workforce by some 20 employees.

The plant is located in the Lodzka special economic zone (LSSE) which enables Mecalit with preferential tax treatment for its investment.

The company has secured a permission to implement the investment by the end of 2015. Under the deal, Mecalit is required to maintain at least 172 jobs by the end of October 2020, the LSSE said in a statement.

The German producer makes a wide range of components with the use of plastics and other materials, including PE, PP, PS, ABS, POM and PA, according to data released by Mecalit. The company’s production range includes various pipes, flaps, handles, covers and other components. Mecalit supplies a significant share of its output to the home appliances industry.

The project will be carried out by the German firm’s local subsidiary Mecalit Polska. The offshoot has been active in the Polish plastics industry since 2004. In addition to its plant in Lodz, Mecalit says it operates a facility in Germany's Lichtenau, where the company is headquartered, and a factory in Kuklen, Bulgaria.
