A. Schulman Acquires 5-Layer Blown Film Line For Polybatch Centre
4 August 2016
One of the world's leading lights in high performance plastic materials A. Schulman has revealed it has taken possession of a 5-layer blown film extrusion line at its Polybatch Technology Center in Bornem, Belgium.
A. Schulman recently installed the state-of-the-art in order to support the development of multi-layer applications in response to growing multilayer and barrier requirements in markets such as food packaging or agricultural applications.
“We are very enthusiastic about this newly acquired blown film co-extrusion line. It is great help for product development and customer support," said David Johnson, Vice-President, EMEA, Master Batch Solutions Division. “While lab lines often have certain scale-up limitations, we are confident that we simulate production line conditions with this new small scale line.”
“The new line is ideal for sample production too, as it allows outputs around 50 kg/h and quick change-overs,” added Ann Delmotte, R&D Lead for Master Batch Solutions in EMEA and Managing Director at A. Schulman Plastics, bvba, Belgium. “The blown film co-extrusion line can also be used by external third parties. Since a couple of years already we offer the same service for our BOPP pilot line and our frame stretching equipment."
The Polybatch Technology Center is one of five A. Schulman research centers worldwide and provides product development and technical service support to customers all over the world. This research center forms part of the manufacturing site in Bornem, Belgium which exists over 50 years and is the lead manufacturing site in A. Schulman for additives and functionalities. With 240 employees and covering a very broad product range, this site is, combined with the production site in Givet, France, the biggest masterbatch production site in EMEA.
