Arkema launches new layer resin for film packaging applications

27 January 2016

Specialty chemicals firm Arkema has expanded its product range with the introduction of a new layer resin, Orevac 18362.

The resin offers excellent clarity and high adhesion for various applications in film packaging including EVOH barrier films and polyamides that are used in clear multilayer packaging for fresh produce.

This new grade complies with both FDA and EU food regulations and will meet food companies' requirement for flexible lids and barrier bags with higher transparency to pack cheese, meat or vegetables, the company said.

Made out of maleic anhydride grafted LLDPE, Orevac 18362 can be processed on standard PE extrusion lines and equipment. It is suitable for blown film, cast coextrusion, tube extrusion and blow molded multilayer structures.

Arkema's Orevac 18362 is an addition to the company's tie layer portfolio including Orevac 18341 concentrated polyethylene-based tie layer; Orevac 18910N tie layer for styrenics/polyethylene barrier films; Orevac 18729 grafted polypropylene general purpose tie layer; Orevac 18722 grafted polypropylene high performance tie layer.

Specialty films producer LEYGATECH has tested Orevac 18362 and then adopted it for the production of all its transparent food barrier films.

Orevac tie resins are claimed to simplify production process and improve end-product performances due to the improvement of blown film productivity.
