Chase to distribute Solvay fluoropolymer additives in North America

28 December 2016

Solvay SA has named Chase Plastics Services as its exclusive North American distributor of fluoropolymer additives.

Starting Jan. 1, Clarkston, Mich.-based Chase will distribute Algoflon L-brand and Polymist-brand micronized powders based on PTFE fluoropolymers. This line of additives was designed to enhance the processing and end-use performance of host products and base resins, Solvay officials said in a recent news release.

The materials are made by Solvay’s Solvay Specialty Polymers unit, which is based in Alpharetta, Ga. Solvay’s corporate headquarters is in Brussels.

Chris Payne, Solvay North America channel partners manager, said in the release that Solvay is looking forward to working with Chase to meet growing demand for the micronized powders from compounders serving multiple markets.

The powders can improve wear, scratch and rub resistance, as well as offer better mold release, anti-stick performance and internal lubrication, officials said. They added that Solvay will continue to accept and fill direct orders that meet the firm’s established minimum order quantities. Small lot orders will be available exclusively through Chase.

Chase stocks more than 6,400 specialty and engineering plastics materials for more than 2,500 customers. The firm distributes materials for more than 30 suppliers and expected to post sales of just over $230 million in 2016. Chase also was the winner of the Plastics News 2016 Best Places To Work award.

Solvay is a global supplier of specialty plastics and chemicals with annual sales of 12.4 billion euros ($12.9 billion) in 2015. The firm employs almost 31,000 in 53 countries.
