Madison-based Placon, a plastic packaging designer and manufacturer for the food, retail and medical markets, has purchased Brookdale Plastics in Plymouth, Minn.

The move strengthens Placon's position in the medical and retail markets, the company said in a statement.

Brookdale is a privately held custom thermoformer founded in 1963. Brookdale’s 74,000 square-foot facility houses 3D printers, an in-house tooling department, and a Class 100,000 cleanroom. Brookdale employs 78 people and will be retained by Placon.

Placon employs about 370 in Madison and has additional operations in Springfield, Mass. and Elkhart, Ind.
