A plastic moulding firm is celebrating after more than trebling its workforce.

Amtek Plastics has expanded dramatically over the last two years both in terms of staff numbers and premises and created 17 jobs.

Started 11 years ago, the newton Abbot company, which develops new products, has recently grown from just eight staff to employing 25 people.

Its plastic injection moulding business has increased in size by 150% it has tripled the amount of floorspace and invested more than £150,000 in new machinery.

Amtek Plastics has recently landed a new client in the shape of international delivery company DHL along with existing customers from the aerospace, defence, medical, retail and construction sectors.

For the last two years, Amtek has been working with Newton Abbot-based business coach Steve Gaskell of ActionMan ActionCoach to expand the company.

Owner Stewart Little said: "I'm not sure if we are bucking the trend but we are finding that working with the right businesses that are investing in new product development are certainly keeping us extremely busy right now.

"We started working with Steve because we needed assistance focussing on what is truly important to achieve the ambitious growth figures we have set.

"The challenges we faced were finding the key members of staff with the right skills and also the right passion for the growth we are experiencing and the growth of the business sometimes puts a strain on resources, space being the main one.

"It is really impressive that the ambitious growth targets that we, along with Steve's help, put in place are being achieved and exceeded and this is not down to one individual but as a team."

One of the key staff is Mark Amphlett, Amtek's sales and marketing manager.

He said: "It's exciting times here at Amtek with the UK rebranding last year and expansion which is matching my five year plan, all is going as we want.

"One of the real areas to focus on has been productivity and in the last couple of months, that has gone up by 64%.

"Since we have been working together, the company has experienced its biggest period of growth.

"Stewart knew where he wanted to be but needed guidance on how to get there.

"It means he has created a commercial enterprise which can work successfully without him."
