Polyethylene from Mexico's Braskem-Idesa begins to establish a trade flow into Africa

1 August 2016

Polyethylene product from Mexico's Braskem-Idesa begins to establish a trade flow into Africa, as per sources in Platts. Braskem-Idesa, a joint venture between Brazil's Braskem (75%) and Mexico's Grupo Idesa (25%), was unavailable for comment.

One trader said that he had done a deal last month, and received a second offer this month. He added that they could also be offering to Europe or Turkey. "We previously used product from Brazil but that stopped about five years ago...this new shale fed plant in Mexico should help them keep prices down so we can fix things into Africa more regularly," an African trader said.
