29 June 2017

A German manufacturer plans to invest $25 million in an expansion of its LaPorte factory, where it will hire 30 more workers.

American Renolit has made high-quality plastic films in LaPorte since it acquired its 220,000-square-foot facility at 1207 E. Lincolnway from the Solvay Group in 1999. It currently employs 175 people, and plans to boost its workforce to 205 by 2019 in order to keep up with demand from existing customers.

"This capacity extension confirms Renolit’s leadership in the calendered film market in the US, and I am proud that it demonstrates our drive to meet our customers' current and future needs, our strong commitment to the LaPorte community, and that it recognizes and rewards the dedication of our employees as a major contributor in the continued success of American Renolit Corporation," American Renolit President Renaat Demeulemeester said.

American Renolit, a subsidiary of the Renolit Group, makes films for the graphics, label, furniture and window profile industries. It's invested about $100 million in LaPorte, where workers produce calendered, flexible and rigid films. The company also is looking at new markets and applications.

"American Renolit has a nearly 20-year history of investing in Indiana, and we are appreciative of the company's continued commitment to the region and to the state," Indiana Economic Development Corp. President Elaine Bedel said. The 70-year-old company employs 4,500 workers at more than 30 factories worldwide.

“American Renolit has a long-standing history of success in LaPorte," Mayor Blair Milo said. "Their international presence and leadership within the high quality plastic film industry make them a perfect fit for our manufacturing sector and contribute to LaPorte’s reputation as a place where manufacturing thrives."

"I am excited to celebrate this expansion project with American Renolit, another spoke off the Hub of Awesome, and look forward to many more years of partnership with this great company," she said"

Construction starts this year, and the expansion should be finished by the end of next year.
