Tsuchiya Group North America, the North American arm of Japan-based Tsuchiya Co. Ltd., will invest $9.2 million to build a new headquarters and R&D center in Bloomington, Ind.

Tsuchiya Group operates four Tasus Corp. manufacturing facilities in North America, supplying injection molded components and printed/formed graphics. The company also is a distributor of items such as inks and adhesives to automotive market. The new facility will be its first North American engineering and design center.

“For Tsuchiya Group and Tasus, this is an ideal location to open a manufacturing technical and design center,” said CEO Melanie Walker Hart in a statement. “We are surrounded by the likes of Ivy Tech, the Hoosier Hills Career Center, Vincennes University and of course Indiana University.”

Tsuchiya employs nearly 600, including more than 200 in Indiana. At its Bloomington headquarters, the group plans to add up to 18 jobs to its current staff of 34 by 2020.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. offered Tasus Corp. up to $300,000 in conditional tax credits and up to $43,750 in training grants based on the company’s job creation plans. The city of Bloomington will offer additional incentives.

Tsuchiya Group plans to break ground on the new facility in 2018 and begin moving in by 2019.
