Recycling Program Targets Agrichemical Containers

The Illinois Department of Agriculture will collect empty agrichemical containers at several sites in July and August.

Area collections will take place:

º From 1 to 3 p.m. July 26 at Logan Agri-Service, Griggsville. Call Troy Kennedy at 217-833-2375 for more information.

º From 9 to 11 a.m. July 28 at Prairieland FS in Rushville. Call Aaron Winner at 217-322-2024 for more information.

º From 1 to 3 p.m. July 28 at Chem-Gro in Bowen. Call Todd Nelson at 217-842-5514 for more information.

Collection sites will accept only high-density polyethylene, No. 2 plastic agrichemical containers that are clean and dry. Participants are responsible for rinsing the containers and removing all caps, labels, booklets and foil seals.

Metal and household pesticide containers are not eligible.

The containers will be recycled to make shipping pallets, fence posts, drainage tubing, plastic lumber and other products.

The program is a cooperative venture between the department, Agriculture Container Recycle Council, Growmark Inc., Illinois Fertilizer and Chemical Association, Container Services Network, Illinois Farm Bureau and University of Illinois Extension.
