Sabic Collaboration With The Alliance To End Plastic Waste Highlighted In 2022 Progress Report

21 July 2023

The report outlines the lessons learnt from more than 50 projects that test solutions to end plastic waste and foster a circular economy around the world.

The Alliance to End Plastic Waste has recently third annual Progress Report titled Catalyzing Impact. The report affirms the tangible progress driven by the Alliance, brought to life through case studies detailing the critical needs and programs supported worldwide since its launch in 2018.

As a founding member of the Alliance, SABIC’s contributions are showcased in the report alongside industry members across four strategic pillars—infrastructure, innovation, education & engagement, and cleanup, to accelerate circular plastics.

“SABIC believes plastic is an essential element of a sustainable future and the well-being for society at large,” said Abdulrahman al-Fageeh, Chief Executive Officer, SABIC. “We continue to put our commitments proudly into action, and we have made tangible progress, bringing us closer to a sustainable and circular economy for plastics."

He added, “While we are making tangible progress, we know we still have a long journey ahead. We must remain focused on diverting used plastics from entering our environment so we can realize its true potential to help secure food security, improve water management, accelerate the transition to renewables, safeguard public health, and advance our quality of life. Looking ahead, we are excited to continue this important work alongside our partners at the Alliance to End Plastic Waste, sharing expertise to drive circular models to scale, maximizing product lifecycles, eliminating waste, and regenerating natural systems.”

As cited in the report, SABIC marked a series of milestones over the past year in its efforts to help drive the circular economy for plastics. For instance, SABIC reached the final stages of constructing the world’s first commercial advanced recycling plant, with the first commercial delivery of commercial polymers produced by the unit now only months away. The company also expanded its TRUCIRCLE™ portfolio and unveiled a new target of processing at least one million metric tons of TRUCIRCLE™ solutions annually by 2030.

Founded four years ago, the Alliance focuses on harnessing innovation, incubating ideas, and scaling up new solutions, business models, and technologies to end plastic waste on the ground. Some of the world's leading companies in the chemical, plastic, consumer goods, and waste management sectors have joined the network, committing their resources, expertise, and capabilities to advance the alliance's mission around the world.
