Solvay to showcase complete range of advanced polymers and specialty chemicals at Semicon Taiwan 2023

11 September 2023

Solvay, a prominent global supplier of specialty materials, has announced its participation in Semicon Taiwan 2023. During the event, Solvay will showcase its comprehensive materials portfolio designed for the global and local semiconductor manufacturing industry. Additionally, the company will highlight the forthcoming launch of operations at its Taiwan-based Shinsol Advanced Chemicals joint venture plant, which will produce electronic-grade hydrogen peroxide.

Taking place at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center from September 6 to 8, Solvay's exhibit at Booth Q5848 will emphasize cost-efficient and sustainable material solutions. These solutions span from advanced polymers to slurry abrasives, gases, and wet chemicals, all engineered to address the unique and intricate requirements of semiconductor manufacturers. Solvay's materials offer outstanding purity, long-lasting chemical stability, and optimized resistance to high temperatures and plasma, pushing the limits of chip performance.

Andrew Lau, Senior Executive Vice President of Solvay's Specialty Polymers Global Business Unit, stated, "We have made significant investments to demonstrate our firm commitment to Taiwan's market players which serve the local and global semiconductors industry and are proud to share the latest material innovations for more profitable and sustainable processes covering all semiconductors manufacturing stages. Our R&D, production and support capacities are all targeted at delivering the high-performance solutions needed for next-generation processes in line with the semiconductors manufacturing roadmap."

Solvay is a recognized leader in specialty polymers and chemicals for the semiconductor industry. These materials have demonstrated superior resistance to the harsh conditions of advanced semiconductor processes. Designed to meet demanding performance requirements, Solvay's solutions deliver efficiencies, help manufacturers reduce their carbon footprint, and cater to various process stages, including front-end-of-line (FEOL), back-end-of-line (BEOL), testing, and assembly.

Solvay will showcase selected structural and internal parts molded from its specialty polymers, such as KetaSpire® PEEK, Torlon® PAI, Halar® ECTFE, and Solef® PVDF, demonstrating the value of these materials in FEOL processes. The booth will also highlight Tecnoflon® FFKM, Fomblin® PFPE, and Galden® PFPE, among others, emphasizing their roles in semiconductor manufacturing.

Furthermore, Solvay will present several material solutions with advanced sustainability profiles, including new bio-based polymer chemistry and non-fluorosurfactant Tecnoflon® FKM and Tecnoflon® FFKM elastomers for dry etch seal fabrication.

Solvay's specialty polymers extend into wafer handling, duct coating, filters, piping, tubing, and BEOL processes. The portfolio is complemented by specialty chemicals, including cleaning gas for etching, Interox® hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) for optimized wet etching, and Cypure® PH3 cylindered phosphine dopant gas, all offering high levels of purity, quality, and consistency.

Solvay has invested in a joint venture plant for the production of electronic-grade H2O2, a crucial chemical agent in wafer cleaning, located at Tainan Technology Industry Park in Taiwan. The plant is expected to start operations in the fourth quarter of 2023, with an initial capacity of 30,000 tons per year, ensuring a long-term supply of specialty chemicals while adhering to strict international quality, sustainability, and environmental safety standards.

In addition to its semiconductor materials portfolio, Solvay continues to drive innovation with the introduction of a specialized grade of Rhodianyl, made from 100% pre-consumer recycled polyamide, produced at its Santo Andre plant in Brazil.
