Wright Plastic Products Company Investing $3.275 Million and Adding 19 Jobs in St. Clair, Michigan

14 July 2017

Wright Plastic Products Company plans to add 14,400 square feet to its St. Clair Facility, investing $3.275 million and creating an additional 19 jobs in St. Clair County, Michigan.  The company, which specializes in plastic injection molding, produces a variety of custom plastics parts in the automotive, recreational vehicles, marine, and consumer markets.

A $160,000 performance-based grant has been approved by Michigan Strategic Fund Board (MSF) a division of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC).   Michigan was selected over a competing site in Tennessee (where the company has a location).  The City of St. Clair has offered a “staff, financial, or economic commitment to the project” in the form of a tax abatement estimated to be worth $143,000.  These incentives will help offset overall costs of doing the project in Michigan.

“Over the past 8 years Wright Plastic Products Company has grown very rapidly, adding a facility in Tennessee, expanding our plant in St. Clair, Michigan and adding numerous horizontal, rotary and 2 shot injection molding machines. That growth continues, requiring a further expansion of our St. Clair plant and numerous additional 2 shot machines in both our St. Clair and Sheridan, Michigan plants. The State of Michigan has been a true partner in their support of that growth, with a mix of infrastructure improvement grants, tax abatement and performance grants tied to the growth of our Michigan employee base. We also will be taking advantage of other business-friendly services, particularly programs designed to help us find the additional talent we need to support our growth. We are fortunate to be based in a state with such forward-looking support for Michigan-based businesses,” said Robert Luce, President of Wright Plastic Products Company.”

“The City of St. Clair is pleased to support Wright Plastic Products decision to expand its company in our community,” said Mayor Bill Cedar. “We look forward to the additional job opportunities this will create for both local and regional residents in St. Clair County.”

Wright Plastic Products Company, established in 1972, has been serving the plastic industry with a dedication to quality and customer service for more than 30 years.  The company has grown from a single location to three locations:  Sheridan, Michigan, St. Clair, Michigan and Madisonville, Tennessee.  The company will also be expanding its Sheridan, Michigan, location.

The Economic Development Alliance has worked with Wright Plastic Products on its recent expansions including a $1.8 million investment in 2014.  “The county’s economy grows when companies like this make these strategic investments that retain and create jobs,” said Dan Casey, CEO of EDA.  “So we’re very appreciative that Wright Plastic Products Company continues to expand here.”
