This innovative additive series is designed to meet the evolving demands of modern engine technology, specifically gasoline direct injection (GDI) engines, which are now used in 74% of all new vehicles in North America, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) latest Automotive Trends Report.

Twenty years ago, a group of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) adopted the voluntary TOP TIER™ standard to improve fuel cleanliness and optimize engine performance. Recognizing advances in engine technology and the need for updated standards, these OEMs have adopted the revised TOP TIER+™ standard. This new standard includes additional requirements to prevent potential deposit problems in GDI engines and ensure cleaner, more efficient fuel options.

The new TOP TIER+™ standard, Revision G, released in early January, includes two new test methods using a GM LHU engine. The first test evaluates injector deposit control by measuring injector fouling and particulate buildup. Injector contamination can lead to poor spray patterns, compromised fuel delivery, increased fuel consumption, and elevated particulate emissions. The second test focuses on protecting against stochastic pre-ignition (SPI), a harmful pre-ignition event that can occur in modern downsized engines and potentially lead to engine failure.
