The Blooming Future will be put into operation as part of Braskem's growing sustainable fleet.
19 June 2026
Braskem (B3: BRKM3, BRKM5 and BRKM6; NYSE: BAK; LATIBEX: XBRK), the largest polyolefin producer in North and South America and a global leader in the industrial-scale production of biopolymers, today announced that Braskem Trading & Shipping (BT&S) has launched the maiden voyage of the Blooming Future , a next-generation LR1 tanker for chemicals and product oil, designed to transport essential commodities with greater efficiency and a lower carbon footprint. The vessel was officially christened in a ceremony in China on May 8 .
“The Blooming Future will transport naphtha to support our industrial production and will travel at optimized speeds to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. The vessel is as wide as a six-lane highway and can carry cargo equivalent to the volume of approximately 35 Olympic swimming pools. It was designed to meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and sustainability, and demonstrates how operational efficiency and low-carbon maritime transport can be combined,” said Hardi Schuck, Director of Braskem Trading & Shipping.
The Blooming Future was built as a tanker (IMO Type 3) specifically designed for the transport of chemicals and petroleum products and is equipped with advanced technologies, including biofuel-compatible engines and energy-efficient systems that contribute to lower emissions and improved performance. The new vessel is expected to emit an average of approximately 30% less CO₂ compared to the ships currently in operation at Braskem, resulting in an estimated reduction of around 6,500 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year.
The vessel is part of a broader fleet expansion program, under which Braskem Trading & Shipping is expected to operate a total of four LR1 tankers by the beginning of 2027, thus reinforcing its commitment to reliability, safety and sustainable ship operation.
