Introduction:
Avantium N.V., a pioneer in renewable and circular polymer materials, has provided an update on the start-up of its FDCA Flagship Plant in Delfzijl, the Netherlands.
Features:
The revised timeline follows the identification of construction-related piping issues involving certain titanium welds during commissioning. These issues require additional work to ensure a safe and reliable start-up. Avantium has made strong progress on the weld repair activities, giving a clear foundation for the remaining start-up steps.
Commissioning and start-up activities at the FDCA Flagship Plant are continuing. Utilities and the sugar dehydration unit are already operational, while efforts are now focused on starting up the oxidation and purification units. During commissioning of these units, construction-related quality issues were found in certain titanium welds in the piping, which posed a safety risk for start-up and operations.
The titanium weld remediation is expected to result in an additional €7 million in capital expenditure.
Avantium now expects to complete the start-up by mid-2026 and to begin product sales under its existing offtake agreements in the second half of 2026.
