Introduction:

ExxonMobil has recently launched two new chemical production units at its Baytown, Texas facility, marking a significant milestone in its strategic expansion efforts. This $2 billion investment underscores ExxonMobil’s commitment to enhancing production capabilities across its U.S. Gulf Coast refining and chemical operations.

Features:

Karen McKee, President of ExxonMobil Product Solutions, highlighted the importance of these advancements: “With the introduction of these two new lines, ExxonMobil is meeting critical market needs by supplying high-value materials integral to everyday products.”

The new performance polymers line will annually produce 400,000 metric tons of Vistamaxx™ and Exact™-branded polymer modifiers. These additives significantly improve the performance of a wide array of chemical products used in automotive components, construction materials, hygiene and personal care items, and diverse packaging applications.

Additionally, the new linear alpha olefins unit will yield 350,000 tons per year of Elevexx™-branded products, marking ExxonMobil’s debut in this market segment. Linear alpha olefins are essential components in plastic packaging, high-performance engine and industrial oils, as well as serving as foundational elements for surfactants and drag reducing agents. These agents play pivotal roles in reducing surface tension for cleaning and industrial purposes, and enhancing crude oil flow efficiency in pipelines.

Throughout its construction phase, this project generated employment for over 3,500 individuals. Once fully operational, it will directly employ an additional 200 personnel, further bolstering ExxonMobil’s economic footprint in the region.
