Introduction:

Neste is expanding its logistics setup for liquefied recycled materials at its refinery in Porvoo, Finland, including materials like liquefied plastic and rubber tires.

Features:

The new logistics facilities will include special unloading points. At the refinery's harbour, Neste is building an unloading arm with a heating system and pipelines to connect the harbour to storage tanks. Unlike crude oil, liquefied plastic and rubber need to be heated to stay liquid, and the systems must be resistant to corrosion. Along with the unloading arm and pipelines, Neste is also building a vapor recovery unit to control emissions.

This new setup will help Neste process larger amounts of liquefied recycled materials. This will be necessary when the new upgrading unit, able to process 150,000 tonnes of liquefied plastic each year, starts operating.

The new logistics infrastructure is expected to be finished in 2024, ready when Neste completes the construction of its liquefied plastic upgrading unit, part of the PULSE project, which is planned to finish in 2025.
