Introduction:

Veolia, a leading resource management company in the UK, has announced a £70 million investment in its largest plastics recycling project to date. The project includes the development of the UK’s first closed-loop PET recycling facility designed to recycle used plastic food trays back into new trays, located in Battlefield near Shrewsbury, Shropshire.

Features:

The new plant will process approximately 80,000 tonnes of mixed plastics each year, sourced from households and businesses across the country. By using recycled plastic instead of virgin materials, the facility is expected to cut carbon emissions by up to 70%.

This project supports Veolia’s wider goal of advancing the circular economy in the UK, with the company aiming to invest around £1 billion in similar sustainability initiatives by 2030.

Construction is already underway, and the facility is expected to be fully operational by early 2026.
